Dr. Rahul Chhibber is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Jodhpur, where he has been a faculty member since 2012. He earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Roorkee in 2008.

His research interests encompass welding and joining, manufacturing and materials processing, and the mechanical behavior of materials. He has contributed significantly to the development of welding consumables for shielded metal arc and submerged arc welding processes. His work also includes the fabrication and structural integrity assessment of dissimilar material joints.

Dr. Chhibber has been involved in hygrothermal investigations on fiber-reinforced polymer nanocomposites. He has published over 90 research articles and has an h-index of 27. His work is widely cited, with over 2,400 citations.

His student recently received the C.V. Raman Gold Medal for the best thesis in 2024. He was also awarded the W.H. Hobart Memorial Award from the American Welding Society in 2024.

His research group has been recognized for excellence in presentations and research experimentation, including awards at international conferences and access to research facilities in Switzerland.
