Dr Sudipto Mukhopadhyay currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur (IITJ). He is also affiliated with the Rishabh Centre for Research and Innovation in Clean Energy.
His research interests are a blend of theory and practice, focusing on the design and development of Clean Energy Technologies using experimental and numerical techniques. His investigations span a wide range of areas, including micro combustors, Scramjets, Microgas Turbines, Spray diagnostics, Gasturbines, and fundamental droplet studies.
He has been awarded multiple research grants, including those from the Royal Academy of Engineering (UK), the Ministry of Power (MoP) India, the Ministry of Education (MoE) India, Centre for High Technology (CHT) India, CESC Ltd., Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Ltd., and GE Vernova. He was also awarded the Leaders in Innovation Fellowship, RAE, UK (2025) and Leeds Institute of Fluid Dynamics Visiting Fellow,UK (2024).
Before joining IITJ, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Eindhoven University of Technology and Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. He earned his PhD in turbulent combustion modelling at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). He also holds an MTech from IIT Madras and a BTech from Kalyani Government Engineering College. Before his doctoral studies, Sudipto gained valuable experience working for over seven years in the Engineering and Industrial Services division of Tata Consultancy Services, a leading Indian multinational corporation.
