Ananya Debnath
ProfessorBiography
Prof Debnath is currently a professor in the Department of Chemistry, IIT Jodhpur. She joined IIT jodhpur as an assistant professor in 2013. Before joining Jodhpur, she worked as a post doctoral fellow in Goethe-Universität, Frankfurt, Germany in 2013 for a short duration. Prior to that she worked as a Max Planck post dostoral fellow at Max Planck Institute of Polymer Science, Mainz, Germany from 2009-2012. She was a research associate at Department of Chemical Engineering and Department of Physics in Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore from 2007-2009. She obtained her PhD from Department of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry from IISc Bangalore in 2008 under the supervision of Prof K. L. Sebastian.
Research
Prof Debnath’s current research broadly envisages on
understanding of biological processes using principles of classical statistical
mechanics. Her group uses modeling tools ranging from multi-scale modeling,
molecular dynamics simulations combined with machine learning techniques to
study the structure, thermodynamics and dynamics of proteins, lipids, water at
the micro and meso-scale as well as the analytical theory at the macro-scale to
investigate different processes involving biological chain and macromolecules. The group is particularly interested in
- Water
dynamics near soft and bio molecules
- Structure
and Dynamics of Biological Membranes
- Trans-membrane and Peripheral Proteins
- Protein-Ligand
Binding
- Dynamics
and Reaction Rates of Activated Processes involving Polymers
- Glass
Transitions and Dynamical Heterogeneity in Biomembranes
- Self-assembly
of Bio-inspired Soft Materials
