Title of the talk: "Recent Advances in Meshfree Methods & its Application to Cryosurgery Problems"

Date , Time & Venue: 18 August 2025  at 05 PM on Seminar Hall, Dept. of Mathematics

Abstract: Meshfree methods have emerged as powerful numerical techniques that overcome the limitations of traditional mesh-based approaches, particularly in solving complex problems involving large deformations, moving boundaries, and fracture mechanics. Recent advances in meshfree formulations, such as the Element-Free Galerkin (EFG) method, Smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH), and Meshless local Petrov Galerkin (MLPG), etc.,have significantly improved accuracy, computational efficiency, and adaptability in biomedical simulations. One of the promising areas of application is in cryosurgery, a minimally invasive technique that destroys diseased tissues through controlled freezing. Accurate prediction of temperature distribution, ice-ball formation, and thermal damage to surrounding healthy tissues is critical for effective treatment planning. Meshfree methods provide flexibility in modeling evolving freeze fronts and irregular geometries of biological tissues, where conventional finite element and finite difference methods often encounter difficulties. This work highlights recent developments in meshfree approaches, their numerical advantages, and their specific applications to cryosurgery problems, with emphasis on improved computational efficiency and accuracy with clinical decision-making tools.
